Waking Up to Grace: A Traumatic Childbirth Story and Reflections on Maternal Health in America

Hello from the Author

On July 24, 2024, I almost died giving birth to our daughter. After losing 10 liters of blood, I spent nearly 24 hours fully sedated only to wake up and wait another 24 hours to hold her for the first time in my arms.

This book was written not to incite pity, but to spark change. My story is a testament to the power of believing in something greater than our circumstances. It’s a reminder that, no matter the obstacles, we all have the power to to heal. My daughter and I are living proof of that.

But I also recognize that not everyone is as fortunate, and that’s why this book exists – to shed light on the maternal mortality crisis in the U.S. and to advocate for a future where every mother and child has the chance to thrive.

I invite you to read this book with an open heart and a willingness to reflect. It’s my hope that Waking Up to Grace will inspire you to join the movement for better maternal health outcomes and to support the mothers and families in your own community.

With Love + Gratitude,

Terranie
